Miles & District
Located at the intersection of the Leichardt Highway and the Warrego Highway, Miles is rural community approximately 200 kilometres west of Toowoomba, servicing the outlying communities of Condamine, Drillham & Dulacca.
Founded in 1878 to service the construction of the Brisbane railway from Brisbane, Miles & district has become known for its cotton, grain and beef production; along with agriculture, resource development in the area has become a key driver in the local economy also.
Miles has an active cultural and community life, including through local productions, events and festivals such as the Miles Beef, Bells, and Bottle Tree Festival.
The area has a strong focus on visual arts and history, with Dogwood Crossing and the Miles Historical Village Museum as central cultural assets to the community.
In 2012, the Miles Chamber of Commerce partnered with Urbis Pty Ltd to produce a Community
Investment Plan through extensive consultations with Miles residents. The Miles Community Investment Plan articulates the shared vision of the Miles community, business, and local Council and presents a proverbial roadmap for future development.
